Canandaigua was Lake Orion's first name! James Stilson named the city Canandaigua and tried to sell land to New Yorkers calling it the NEW Canandaigua since there was already a Canandaigua city in New York.
The buyers didn't know the land was swampy and undeveloped. By the time they claimed their land James was no where to be found. This 128 pg. coffee table book is chock full of Lake Orion history!
